Important Note About the Code Chip

Unlike some newer strips that auto-calibrate, the Accu-Chek Active Strips 50s require a code chip. One chip is included in every box. You must insert this chip into the meter when starting a new box. The chip tells the meter the correct calibration code for that specific batch of strips. If you skip this step, your readings may be inaccurate.

Always match the code number shown on the meter display with the code number on the strip container.

  • Stabilizer (0.13mg): Protects the enzyme from degradation to maintain strip performance over its shelf life
  • Non-reactive ingredients (1.6mg): Inactive fillers and binders that form the strip structure
  • Gold electrode and capillary channel: Conducts the electrical glucose signal to the meter

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Accu-Chek Active Strips 50s include a code chip, and how is it different from no-coding strips?

The code chip calibrates the Accu-Chek Active meter to the exact batch of strips in each new box. You must insert it every time you open a new box. Newer strips like the Accu-Chek Instant or Performa auto-calibrate without a chip. The Active system uses this chip to maintain accuracy across different manufacturing batches.

What happens if I forget to insert the code chip in a new box?

If the chip from the old box is still in the meter, the calibration code will not match the new batch. This can cause inaccurate readings. Always remove the old chip, insert the new one from the new box, and confirm the code number on the meter screen matches the number printed on the new container.

Can I apply blood outside the meter with these strips?

Yes. Accu-Chek Active Strips 50s support out-of-meter dosing. You can apply the blood drop to the green field on the strip before inserting it into the meter. This is helpful for elderly patients or anyone who finds in-meter dosing difficult. Results take about 8 seconds in this mode compared to 5 seconds inside the meter.

What do I do if my blood drop was too small for the strip?

You have a re-dosing window of 10 seconds after applying the first drop. Within that time, you can add more blood to the same strip. This prevents wasting a strip due to an insufficient sample. After 10 seconds, the window closes, and you will need to start with a fresh strip.
