Castor oil is a vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant.

It’s often used orally as a strong stimulant laxative for relief of occasional constipation. It works by converting into ricinoleic acid in the intestine, which stimulates smooth muscles and speeds up bowel movement.

As a topical product (applied to skin/hair), it acts as a moisturizer, softener, and can help improve skin barrier, relieve dryness, soothe inflammation, and in traditional/hair-care uses, is sometimes used for scalp/hair health.
