Uses / Indications:
Cefspan is used to treat various bacterial infections, such as:

• Respiratory tract infections (e.g. bronchitis, pneumonia)

• Urinary tract infections

• Otitis media (middle ear infections)

• Pharyngitis / tonsillitis and other bacterial infections where the organism is susceptible to cefixime.

Mechanism of Action:

• Cefixime works by interfering with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), inhibiting the cross-linking of the peptidoglycan layer which is essential for cell wall structure. Loss of integrity of cell wall leads to bacterial death.
