  • How it works: It blocks angiotensin II from binding to AT₁ receptors. Angiotensin II normally causes blood vessels to constrict and promotes aldosterone release; blocking its effects leads to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.

Uses / Indications:

  • Treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension)

  • Protection of kidneys in patients with type-2 diabetes and hypertension (diabetic nephropathy)

Typical Dosage:

  • For hypertension: usually 150 mg once daily to start; may increase to 300 mg once daily if needed.

  • For diabetic nephropathy: 300 mg once daily is the commonly recommended dose.
